Hermina M. Von Kaenel

Hermina M. Von Kaenel (nee Beursken), 81, of Elyria, died Wednesday, September 11, 2013, at Southpointe Hospital, after a seven month illness. She was born in Vermilion, August 25, 1932, to the late John and Margaret (nee Beetler) Beursken.

Hermina was a 1950 graduate of Vermilion High School and a 1953 Graduate of M.B. Johnson School of Nursing, at the former Elyria Memorial Hospital. Hermina was a registered nurse at Amherst Hospital during the late 1950s and early 1960s. Later, Hermina was a nurse for Dr. Brandon’s medical practice in Amherst, working there until 1984 when she became employed at Dr. Mark Wagner’s practice in Amherst. She retired from Dr. Wagner’s practice in 1993.

Hermina was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Amherst, where she sang in the Resurrection Choir. She was a former member of the Ohio Osteopathic Medical Assistants.

During the 1980s, Hermina became a Big Sister sponsored by the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Lorain County. She enjoyed sewing and crafts. Most of all, Hermina loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her so,n Dr. Joseph A. (Michelle) Von Kaenel of Vermilion; daughter, Kathleen (David) Mayne of Amherst; four grandchildren, Stephanie and Kelsey Mayne, Christian and Noah Von Kaenel; sister, Betty Eppler of California; three brothers, Jim (Dori) Beursken of California, Jack (Donna) Beursken of Willard, and William (Fran) Beursken of Florida.

In addition to her parents, Hermina was preceded in death by her husband, George F. Von Kaenel (1984); and daughter, Marsha Von Kaenel (1985).

There will be a Memorial Mass at 11 A.M., Wednesday, September 18, 2013, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Amherst. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Amherst. Family will receive friends at church one hour prior to the Mass.
