Joseph Sexton, Jr.,

Joseph Sexton, Jr., 86 years of age, and a resident of Elyria, passed away Thursday, July 25, 2013, at Elyria Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. Joseph was born March 19, 1927, in Kayford, West Virginia. He was raised in Kentucky, but has also lived in Lorain County and Tennessee. Elyria has been his home for the last four years.

Joseph was employed as a Locomotive Engineer and a tool room attendant for U.S. Steel for 32 years, retiring in 1980. He proudly served in the United States Army under the command of General Patton and received the Army Occupation Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. Joseph attended Faith Baptist Church in Amherst. He loved to be with people, especially family. Joseph enjoyed sharing his stories and gardening. He was a member of the Lorain Senior Fellowship and Steel Workers Union Local #1104 in Lorain.

Survivors include his son, Daniel Sexton of Amherst; his daughters and their husbands, Carolyn and Tommie Bradley of Elyria and Marilyn and Robert Player of Sumpter, South Carolina; three grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and brother, William "Big Bud" Sexton of Georgia.

Joesph was preceded in death by his first wife, Olena Sexton (nee Kelley) of 33 years in 1982; his second wife, Gertrude Sexton (nee Krist) of 17 years in 2001; his third wife, Clara Sexton (nee Wilson) of 10 years in 2012; his brothers, David, Cecil and George "Little Bud" Sexton; his sisters, Lucille and JoAnn; and his parents, Joseph and Anna Lee Sexton (nee Cain).

Friends may call Tuesday, July 30, 2013 from 6 to 8 P.M. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 31, 2013, at 11 A.M. at the Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, South Amherst, Ohio.
