Elizabeth Maude Johnson

Spiritual, wisdom, passion, compassion, determination sweet, loving, positive attitude, and a standard of excellence were the hallmarks of the life of Elizabeth Maude Johnson. She never met a stranger. Elizabeth could strike up a lively conversation with anyone. She was an amazing storyteller who would have all in her presence sitting at the edge of their seats. Elizabeth had an infectious laugh. Her husband affectionately called her Bette.

Born in Cleveland on January 17, 1926, to the union of Attorney Max H. and Wilhelmina Vann, Elizabeth was the third of three daughters, two of whom preceded her in death.

Elizabeth completed her early education in Cleveland, after which she attend Wilberforce University, where she completed her undergraduate studies in 1946. Later, she completed her Master's Degree at Kent State University.

Elizabeth's joy in her profession was surpassed only by her loving family. On December 31, 1947, she married the love of her life, James Jerome Johnson, who preceded her in death. To this union four children were born, Anasa, Elizabeth, Jerome and Tyrone.

Her love for children and love of learning led her to her chose profession of teaching. Elizabeth enjoyed a rich 32 year career with the Cleveland Public School District, where she touched and changed the lives of countless children.

Even to life's end, Elizabeth enjoyed spending countless hours in personal worship, prayer and Bible study. She was a woman of strong faith who deeply loved the Lord.

Her hobbies included reading, weight lifting, walking, arts and crafts and her recently discovered, extraordinary talent of oil painting.

Elizabeth fell asleep in Jesus, on Thursday, July 18, 2013. She awaits His return.

She leaves to cherish her memory; her children, Anasa Johnson, Elizabeth Crider, Jerome Johnson (Jennifer), Tyrone Johnson (Sheri); grandchildren, DeShaun Short, Edward Crider, Andrew Hays, Amber Miller, Jerrell Johnson; 10 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Friends may call Thursday, July 25, 2013, from 6 P.M. until time of service at 7 P.M., at the Elyria Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 9652 Murray Ridge Rd., Elyria. Pastor Robert Bjelica will officiate. Burial will follow Friday, July 26, 2013, at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman.
