On Thursday, February 28, 2013, Pete Gustovich went to be with the Lord at the age of 91. He was born October 20, 1921 in Isabella, Pennsylavnia, to the late Nick and Helyn Lonchar Gustovich. He was the fifth of nine brothers and sisters. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Inez Stamps Gustovich; three brothers; and four sisters.
Pete was a resident of Elyria for 36 years, and was employed by General Motors, Elyria, for 36 years. He was a member, Sunday school teacher, and Deacon of the Church of the Open Door; and coached Little League Baseball, here in Elyria. For the last 26 years, Pete was a resident of Plano and Tyler, Texas.
Those who knew him well remember his love for his family, and his love for baseball! He was a WWII Veteran, serving in the Army from 1942 to 1945. Pete played on the Army's baseball team, and was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals. He played with the Tyler Trojans in the Texas League.
He is survived by his son, Don Gustovich and daughter-in-law, Barbara Hawke Gustovich of Prosper, Texas; a sister, Helyn Markovich of Elyria; three grandchildren, Amy Gustovich Jones and husband, Matt from Shipshewana, Indiana, Bryan Gustovich and wife, Carla from Prosper, Texas, and Shelley Gustovich Ewton and husband, Chris from Frisco, Texas; nine great-grandchildren, Mandy, Madison, Mason and Matthew Jones of Shipshewana, Indiana; Austin, Noah, Joshua and Sophia Gustovich of Prosper, Texas, and Abbey Ewton of Frisco, Texas.
His funeral service will be held at 2:30 P.M., Sunday, March 3, 2013 in the chapel of Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home, with Rev. Sherman Mayfield officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:30 P.M. Sunday until service time.
