After graduating, Mabel worked for Columbia River Packers Association, cleaning and packing tuna and salmon. She worked for three years at JC Penney's in Astoria, as a clerk and window decorator, and later at JC Penney's in Oakland, California, and on Broad St. in Elyria for several years.
