Ronald Leroy Hildebrandt, 80, of Mansfield, passed away peacefully at Hospice House of North Central Ohio in Ashland on Sunday, January 6, 2013. Ronald was born January 28, 1931, in Elyria, the son of Ray and Louise (Oates) Hildebrandt.
Ronald, a lifelong resident of LaGrange and was married to Evelyn (McClelland) for 59 years.
Ronald was a volunteer firefighter on the LaGrange Township Fire Department for 34 years. He retired after the last 10 years of being the Fire Chief. Ronald is a 32nd degree member of The LaGrange Masonic Lodge #399 for almost 50 years. Ronald was well known in the community for having great knowledge of anything with a motor. Through his life, Ronald was a mechanic for Barber Motors Cadillac of Elyria, Keystone Bus Garage of LaGrange, Schubert Buick of Oberlin, and retired from Spitzer Motor of Grafton. Ron also worked at General Industries of Elyria with his father, and LaGrange Water Plant. Mr. Hildebrandt was also a member of the LaGrange Engine Club for many years. He enjoyed family, animals and motors.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn of Mansfield; and four children, Cindy Norton (George) of Wellington, David (Julie) of Amherst, Stuart (Treasa) of LaGrange, and Brian (Tammy) of Polk. Ronald is also survived by 11 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Along with his parents, Ronald was preceded in death by his sister, Shirley Hall of Elyria; and son, Frank (Renee) of Grafton.
Friends may call in the Blackburn-Duke Funeral Home, 1021 Main St., Grafton, Wednesday, January 9, 2013, from 2 until 4 and 7 until 9 P.M., with Masonic Services at 7:30 P.M., conducted by LaGrange Masonic Lodge #399.
