Lawrence M. Beckett, 80, of Wellington passed away Wednesday, January 2, 2013, at Fisher Titus Medical Center in Norwalk, following a brief illness. He was born October 12, 1932 in Warsaw, Kentucky.
Lawrence served in the U.S. Army as a motor pool mechanic while stationed in France. He retired in 1983 from the Chevrolet plant in Brook Park as a crane operator, following 30 years of service. Lawrence also worked as a truck driver for Elyria Manufacturing in the 1990s. He was an avid ham radio operator, and enjoyed reading Westerns especially by Louis L’Amour, and watching Cleveland Browns, Indians and Cavaliers.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Nettie J. (nee Quillen); a son, Don Beckett (Judy) of Grafton; two grandchildren, Jeffrey S. Beckett of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Victoria L. Clay (Rob) of Grafton; and two brothers, Clarence Beckett Jr. of Edmonton, Kentucky, and Douglas Becket (Evon) of Olmsted Falls.
Friends may call 4 to 7 P.M. Monday, January 7, 2013, at The Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57) Elyria, (440)322-4626, where funeral services will be at 7 P.M., following visitation, and V.F.W.. Post # 1079 will provide full military honors. Burial will be private at The John Bentley Cemetery in Deane, Kentucky.
