Richard proudly served in the United States Navy on the U.S.S. Oriskany Air Craft Carrier as a Radar Operator during the Korean Conflict. He received the China Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with (2) engagement stars, United Nations Service Medal and the Good Conduct Award for service. Richard was employed at the Lorain Telephone Company for 36 years. He was a avid Cleveland Browns fan. Richard enjoyed attending the local casino nights and loved to take bus trips to Windsor, Canada.
Survivors include his sons, Richard A. Obeshaw and his wife Linda of Conneaut and Stephen D. Bevan and his wife Elizabeth of Elyria; daughters, Linda Dancisko of Vermilion, Susan Obeshaw of Lorain and Jayne White and her husband Michael of Elyria; grandchildren, Evan, Beth, Chris, Leisa, Melissa, Jeff, Jennifer and Michael; great grandchildren, Emme, Dominic, Alayna and soon to be born Adelinde; his brother, Kenneth Obeshaw and his wife Janet of Venice, Florida.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Jean A. Obeshaw (nee Bevan); and his parents, Clarence Obeshaw and Freida Esser (nee Renkel).
Friends may call Friday, January 4, 2013 from 6 to 9 P.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 5, 2013 at 1 1 P.M. in the funeral home. Matt Williams of North Royalton will officiate. Full military honors will be conducted by the Amherst Military Honor Guard. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain.
