Leroy "Bud" Fredrick Albrecht went "home" Saturday, December 22, 2012. He was born in Amherst, November 17, 1921.
During the 1940's, while recovering from tuberculosis at the Lorain County Sanitarium, Bud met Elizabeth "Betty" Duffy. After his 27 month confinement, the couple married and moved to Elyria where they adopted and raised two children, Martha and Mark.
Bud found another love while recovering at the sanitarium: x-ray. Following his release, he devoted his professional life to radiology, first as a technician, then as an administrator at Elyria Memorial Hospital. After Betty's death in 1982, Bud married Lois Burlis and in 1984 retired from the hospital after 34 years of service. The couple moved from Ohio to Punta Gorda, Florida, then to the retirement community of Lake Port Square in Leesburg. On October 3, 2012, the day after their 30th wedding anniversary, Lois passed away.
During his younger years, Bud enjoyed carpentry (some of his woodworking projects were quite extensive) and planting and tending a dahlia garden during the summer months. He also was an active member of Kiwanis and St. Paul United Church of Christ in Elyria. During his retired years, Bud continued his involvement with the Morrison United Methodist Church in Leesburg where he enjoyed teaching adult Sunday school classes. He spent much of his spare time making customized greeting cards on his computer for family and friends.
Surviving relatives include his daughter, Martha (Jim) Peacock of Boulder, Colorado; son, Mark (Diane) Albrecht of Denver, Colorado; grandchildren, Michelle (Sean) Thompson of Salt Lake City, Utah, Meredith Peacock of Boulder, Austin, Reece, Tara and Zoe Albrecht, all of Denver; and great-grandchildren, Taryn and Hayden Thompson of Salt Lake City, Utah.
Bud's final resting place will be at Brookdale Cemetery in Elyria.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Elyria Memorial Hospital Foundation in his name.
