George Andrew Lucas, 88, of Penfield, died Sunday, December 30, 2012 at his residence following a year long illness. A son of the late Michael and Teresa (nee Marchick) Lucas, George was born November 17, 1924 in Berlin, Pennsylvania. George lived in Pennsylvania until he was 13 and then spent most of his life in the Penfield area and attended Penfield High School.
George worked at the Sterling Foundry in Wellington and retired after 43 years with the company. He was also a lifelong farmer. He was a member of Saint Patrick Catholic Church in Wellington.
He enjoyed woodworking, crafts and farming. George always liked to drive on family vacations and once drove all the way to Alaska. He liked being outdoors and enjoyed country music. George loved old western movies and any submarine or war movies.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Thelma (nee Baxter) Lucas; three children, Sherry (Charles) Spragg of Las Vegas, Nevada, Jim (Judy) Lucas of Wellington and Scott (Amy) Lucas of Vermilion; seven grandchildren, Megan Larson, Chelsea Bollin, Jason Lucas, Jared Lucas, Jennifer Lucas, Tyler Lucas, Chandler Lucas and three great grandchildren, Mason, Avery and Annabel; George is also survived by his siblings, Frank Lucas and Kathryn Lacko, both of LaGrange.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Evanich and brother, Steve Lucas.
Friends and family will be received from 4 to 7 P.M., Thursday, January 3, 2013 at Saint Patrick Catholic Church, 512 N. Main St., Wellington, where the Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, January 4, 2013 at 11 A.M., with Father James Reymann officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
