Dr. Barbara L. Jackson

Dr. Barbara L. Jackson, 84, formerly of New York City, born in Detroit, Michigan May 23, 1928, passed away in Oberlin on Thursday, November 15, 2012.

Dr. Jackson had been a Professor of Educational Administration at Fordham University for 25 years. She trained many school superintendents and other leaders in education. Prior to that, she was Professor and Dean of Education at Morgan State University, and Associate Professor at Atlanta University.

Dr. Jackson received her Doctor of Education from Harvard University, her M.A. from The Teachers College of Columbia University, and her B.A. from Wellesley College. She is the author of Balancing Act: The Political Role of the Urban School Superintendent. She was a member of the Board of Trustees at Wellesley College, board of Boys Choir of Harlem Academy, and a member of the Links and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.

She is survived by daughter, Caroline Jackson Smith (Michael T. Smith); son, William E. Jackson II; and two granddaughters, Tommie and Michaela Jackson-Smith.

Memorial Service will be held at Oberlin College's Fairchild Chapel Tuesday, December 18, 2012, at 4 P.M.
