Shirley M. Ostang

Shirley M. Ostang (nee Prock), 81, of Lorain, died Monday, December 10, 2012 at Kingston of Vermilion, where she had been a resident for the past eight years. She was born April 3, 1931 in Ravenna, and had been a Lorain resident for most of her life. She was a 1949 graduate of Lorain High School.

Shirley worked in the office for Fruehauf Trailer, the Miller's Country Place in Avon as a hostess, and at the former Spitzer Lorain Renaissance Hotel as the food and beverage director.

She was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Lorain, and its Marion Guild, the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed cooking and entertaining for her family and friends, as well as flower gardening and traveling.

She is survived by sons, Larry (Elaine) Ostang of Lorain, and David (Shelly) Ostang of Grapevine, TX; three grandchildren, Nicholas (Diane), Brittney (Reid), and Mitchell; two great-grandchildren, Samantha, and Rebecca; brothers, James and Thomas; sisters, Laura and Joyce.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Jessie (Deptowicz) Prock; husband of 32 years, Jerry Albert Ostang in 1983; son, Jeffery in 1979; brothers, Simon, Richard, and Ronald; sister, Frances.

The family will receive friends on Friday, December 14, 2012 from 3 to 7 P.M. at the Riddle Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 1939 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted Saturday at 10 A.M. at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 1305 E. Erie Ave., Lorain, with Reverend Fr. Richard Hudak officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Mary Lee Tucker Clothe-a Child Program, c/o The Morning Journal, 1657 Broadway Ave., Lorain, OH 44052; New Life Hospice, 3500 Kolbe Rd., Lorain, OH 44052; or St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church Roof Repair, 1305 E. Erie Ave., Lorain, OH 44052.
