Gonzalo Cuevas, 79, of Lorain, passed away Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at his home, after a lengthy illness. Gonzalo was born March 11, 1933 in Bayamon, Puerto Rico to Regino Cuevas and Concepcion Torres. He came to Lorain, at the age of 17.
Mr. Cuevas made his career as a welder for the American Ship Building Company in Lorain. He worked there until it closed after many years of service. He loved to fish, follow the Cleveland Indians, play poker and dominos. He enjoyed playing the lottery, especially the scratch offs and three and four digit picks.
Gonzalo is survived by his wife of 57 years, Rosemarie (nee Toth); children, Anthony (Lisa) Cuevas of Sheffield Village, Daniel (Sandra) Cuevas of Elyria Twp., George (Vickie) Cuevas of Lorain, Donna (Dennis) Livchak of Sheffield Lake and Bob (Kristen) Cuevas of North Olmsted; grandchildren, Andrea Reppa, Marco Cuevas, Katie Cuevas, Anthony Cuevas II, Brooke Cuevas, Jennifer Gibbs, Manny Livchak, Ben Livchak, Noah Cuevas and Anna Cuevas; great grandchildren, Matthew Reppa, Lucas Reppa and Paige Gibbs; brother, Jaime Cuevas of Puerto Rico and his sister, Maria Alicia of Lorain.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Concepcion Torres.
The Cuevas family will receive family and friends Monday, November 19, 2012 from 10 to 10:30 A.M. at St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Catholic Church, 2143 Homewood Drive, Lorain. Mass of Christian Burial will follow the visitation at 10:30 A.M., Rev. Fr. John Retar, Pastor will officiate. Inurnment will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Twp.
The family suggest contributions be made in memory of Gonzalo to St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Catholic Church.
