Phillip Joseph Fife, 73, of Elyria, passed away Thursday, October 11, 2012. He was born August 31, 1939 and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he later graduated from St. James High School in the West End.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving in Hanau, Germany. Phil was a retired air traffic controller, from the FAA Cleveland Center in Oberlin.
Phil was a lifelong Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates fan, and a talented artist and writer. He enjoyed reading, word games and spending time with his wife and grandchildren. After his early retirement, he volunteered for the Right To Life and Our Lady of the Wayside in Avon. He worked part time at Sears in Elyria. He and his wife have been active members of St. Jude’s Church in Elyria for over 40 years.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Rose (nee Bossle) Fife; daughter, Angie Galinsky (Tom) of Vermilion; daughter, Barb Bickel of Oberlin; sister, Patricia Speakman of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and four grandchildren, Matt, Zach, Zoe and Ben.
Visitation will be Monday, October 15, 2012 from 6 to 8 P.M. at the Cowling Funeral Home in Oberlin. A Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at 10 A.M. at St. Jude Catholic Church in Elyria, with Father Frank Kosem officiating burial in Westwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to Community Foundation of Lorain County.
