Anthony James Campagna

Anthony James Campagna, 82, of Elyria, passed away Friday, July 6, 2012, following a short illness, at The Abbewood in Elyria. He was born May 27, 1930 in Lakewood, and moved to Elyria in 1958.

Anthony served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957 in Korea. He retired from Ford Motor Co. in Avon Lake, following 31 ½ years of service. Anthony was a member of St. Mary Church, where he volunteered with Hot Meals, and Men's Fellowship. He was a loving husband, attentive father, and devoted grandfather. He grew up and worked on the family farm, and loved gardening. Anthony enjoyed travel; most recently to Sicily. He never met a person he didn't like.

Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Kantor (Robert) of Parkland, Florida, Joan Campagna (Cuca Curbelo) of Miami, Florida; and a son, Paul Campagna (Dimitra) of Grafton. Additional survivors include eight grandchildren, Anthony and Athena Campagna, Arin (Julia) and Blayne Lipman (fiancee Alana Schneider), Mason Kantor, Kiara, Eva, and Yani Curbelo; two great-grandchildren, Chaim and Shmuel Lipman; and three sisters, Mary Banjoff (the late Frank) of Avon Lake, Josephine Myers (the late Ken), Frances Greco (John) of Wickliffe.

Anthony was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Marian (nee: Kozel); his parents, Augustino and Frances (nee Guzzaldo) Campagna; and a brother, Joseph Campagna (the late Margaret).

Friends may call 1 until 5 P.M., Sunday, July 8, 2012, at The Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria (440) 322-4626, where closing prayers will be at 9:30 A.M., Monday, July 9, 2012. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 A.M., Monday, at St, Mary Church, 320 Middle Ave., Elyria, OH 44035. Reverend Father Charles Diedrick, Pastor, will be the Celebrant. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery in Elyria, where V.F.W. Post# 1079 will provide full military honors.
