Michael J. Lotko, Jr.

Michael J. Lotko, Jr., 92, of Elyria, passed away Thursday, April 12, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born September 14, 1919 in Cleveland, and made his home in Elyria since 1946.

During WWII he served with the United States Air Force and then with the Air National Guard, where he attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. In 1948, he was employed by Ohio Edison as a credit manager. In 1954 he was appointed Elyria Safety Service Director by Mayor J. Grant Keys and served until 1959 when he was elected Lorain County Commissioner. During this time he was recalled to active duty with the U.S. Air Force several times. Mr. Lotko was then appointed Post Master by President John F. Kennedy.

He was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church, the American Legion, Post 12, the Knights of Columbus, and The United Polish Club. He also was well known as a director of the Lorain County Banjo Band. An avid tennis player, golfer and bowler, he loved working in his garden.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lenore (nee Kuty); six children, Nancy Lotko Bell (Dudley) of Sanford, Florida, Gail Talarek (Dan) of Elyria, Debra Hruska (John deceased) of Elyria, Michele Samek (Mike) of Elyria, Michael J. Lotko III of Elyria, and Lisa King (Jim) of Dublin, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.

Mr. Lotko was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond and Jack Lotko; his parents, Michael, Sr. and Hazel (Keane) Lotko; and a special aunt, Enaize Kelliker.

Friends will be received at the Reichlin Roberts Funeral Home, 327 Cleveland St., Elyria, Monday, April 16, 2012 from 4 to 8 P.M. Closing prayers will be in the funeral home Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at 9:30 A.M. followed by Mass at 10 A.M. at St. Jude Church, 590 Poplar Street, Elyria. The Reverend Father Frank P. Kosem, Pastor, will officiate. Burial with full military honors, provided by the VFW, Post 1079, will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Elyria.
