Lester E. Drage, 89, of Elyria, died Thursday, March 13, 2008 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain. He was born March 8, 1919 in Elyria, where he was a lifelong resident. He graduated from Elyria High School in 1937 and attended Miami University in Oxford.
He was a Master Technical Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, serving in the South Pacific, including the Marshall Islands and Gilbert Islands Operations.
He began his career in real estate in 1950, opening Les Drage Realty in 1957. In 1990, Les Drage Realty became an affiliate of Coldwell Banker. In addition to selling and developing residential and commercial property, he was also a real estate appraiser, most recently with A. Williams Appraisers and Coldwell Banker-Hunter Realty.
Les was a life member of Detachment 576 Marine Corps League and a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, Elyria, Elyria Rotary Club, Elyria Elks Club, Elyria American Legion Post 12, and the Elyria Country Club.
He was a former Director of Lorain County Bank and had served on the Boards of EMH Regional Medical Center, Spring Valley Country Club, The Chamber of Commerce, the Elyria Y.M.C.A., and the Elyria Real Estate Board.
He was a man with an incredible zest for life and enthusiasm for his community and was also a passionate golfer. He loved his family dearly and especially enjoyed summer vacations with them in the sun and surf of the Outer Banks.
Les is survived by daughters, Leslie (Gary) Goodman of Elyria, Patty (David) Hallam of Middlebury, Vermont; grandchildren, Brian (Amanda) Goodman of Brunswick, Georgia, Brad Goodman of Groton, Connecticut, Aubrey (Gavin) Boyles of Montpelier, Vermont, Tyler Hallman of Middlebury, Vermont, Kim Hallam of Ashburn, Virginia; great-grandchildren, Miranda and Cora Goodman and Liam Boyles and his special friend and companion, LaVaughn Cope of Wellington.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Mary S. Drage in 1999; brother, Jack Drage in 1984; and parents, Arthur and Lotta Drage.
Visitation will be Sunday, March 16, 2008 from 2 to 5 P.M. at Dicken Funeral Home, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria. Funeral Services will be Monday, March 17, 2008 at 11 A.M. at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 330 Second Street, Elyria. The Rev. Christina Kukuk will officiate. Burial will be in Ridgelawn Cemetery, Elyria, where Detachment 576 Marine Corps League will present military honors.
