Thurman H. McDonald

Thurman H. "Dutch" McDonald, 86, of Grafton, passed away Sunday, December 23, 2007 in his home after a short illness.  He was born July 19, 1921 in Kipton, Ohio, living in Grafton over 80 years. He was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace, (Immaculate Conception) Catholic Church all of his life. Mr McDonald was a veteran of the U.S. Marines, serving during WWII and the Korean Conflict, in the infantry and Engineering Units and was also a member of the American Legion & the Polish Club. He was employed at Worthington Ball in Elyria for 45 years in many areas including shipping, quality control, and sales department until his retirement in the 1990's. Thurman enjoyed hunting, fishing, and doing handy work around his family home.

His is survived by three sons, Russell McDonald of Lawrence, Kansas, Robert McDonald of Grafton and Tony McDonald of Avon; 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sue (nee Vargo) in 2000; one daughter, Jeanne Smith; a grandson, Joseph Pratt; his parents, Howard and Minnie McDonald; brothers, DeForrest, Cliffton (Mikey); sisters, Irene, Zella and Crystal.

Friends may call at the Blackburn-Duke Funeral Home, 1021 Main St., Grafton, Thursday from 2 to 4 P.M. and 7 to 9 P.M. with a funeral mass Friday at Our Lady Queen of Peace, 708 Erie St., Grafton, at 10 A.M. with Fr. John Seabold officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Grafton. Hinkson-Hysell VFW Post 3341 will conduct military honors at the cemetery.
