Michael Irvin Kring

Michael Irvin Kring, 62, lost his battle with cancer on Thursday, October 4, 2007 at his home in Montgomery, TX.

Michael was born in South Bend, IN and spent much of his childhood in Ohio.

A veteran of Vietnam, Michael enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1962 and served with the U.S. Submarine Service until 1966.  He was a recipient of the Vietnam Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. Michael returned to Elyria then lived briefly in Indiana before moving to the Tucson, AZ area in 1973, where he resided for over 30 years.

Michael was employed by the U.S. Customs Service for over 22 years, serving in Nogales, Sasabe, and Tucson, AZ as well as Houston, TX. He received many honors and awards during his service including the U.S. Customs Commissioner's Award. He was dedicated to his career and retired, regretfully, this past July due to his illness.

Michael was an avid golfer and supported many benefit tournaments for law enforcement and cancer. Most dear to his heart was the annual Sunshine Kids Golf Tournament to raise money for children with cancer. He also enjoyed bowling, fishing, darts and hunting.

He is survived by his wife, Maribeth Kring; mother, Marguerite (husband Ray) Sweet of Richmond, TX; brothers, Kent (wife Kathe) Kring of Richmond, TX, Roy Tews of Lorain; sister, Lisa Tews of Mesa, AZ; his children from previous marriages; daughters, Michelle Kring and Donna Black, both of Elyria; Lesley Kring of Greenwich, CT; Shelley Kring of Rye, NY; sons, Jeff (wife Debbie) Kring of Tucson, AZ; Lance Kring of Brooklyn, NY; step-daughter Laura Berendt of Montgomery, TX; as well as nine grandchildren.
Michael was preceded in death by his father, Charles Kring, killed in WW II.

Services will be held at the Southern Nevada Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Buchanan Blvd., Boulder City, NV on November 5, 2007 at 2 P.M.
