Garth B. Peacock, 79, of Oberlin, died Sunday, October 7, 2007, at Welcome Nursing Home in Oberlin.
He was born June 26, 1928 in Protection, Kan. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
He received his bachelors of music degree in 1951 and his masters' of music in 1955 from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music.
He taught at Southwestern College and Knox College and then was Professor of Organ at Oberlin College from 1959 until retiring in 1991.
He was a beloved teacher and accomplished organist and served as an organist and choir director at several area churches.
He was a member of Christ Church, Episcopal in Oberlin and had been a volunteer at Eastwood Elementary School and Allen Medical Center.
He is survived by daughters, Linda Pierce of Troy, Mich., Elaine Armstrong of Oil City, Pa., and Laura Cotton of Elyria; sons, Ross Peacock of Oberlin, and Mark Peacock of Hilliard; 13 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; a sister, Jackie Jakubowski of Tulsa, Okla.
Garth was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Jean L., in 2006; parents, Jack and Gladys Peacock; and a grandson, Garth Alexander Peacock.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, November 17, 2007, at Christ Church, Episcopal, 162 South Main St., Oberlin. The Rev. Dr. Brian K. Wilbert will officiate. Burial will be in Westwood Cemetery, Oberlin.
