William "Bill" N. Holdren

William “Bill” N. Holdren, 81, of Elyria, passed away Saturday, October 6, 2007 after a brief illness. He was born in Nemacolin, PA, was a student of Carmichaels Area High School in Carmichaels, PA, but spent most of his life in Elyria.
Bill entered the  U.S. Marines at the age of 17, and spent two years in the Pacific Arena where he was wounded in action. He received a Purple Heart Medal as well as a Good Conduct Medal. Corporal Holdren was called back to active duty again the next year to serve an additional two years of service.
Bill was employed by U.S. Steel/Kolbe Steel and retired in 1987 after 39 years as a millright. Bill was a life member of the VFW Post #1070 in Elyria, where he enjoyed dancing with his wife, Val. He was an avid history buff and enjoyed reading historical books, western novels, and traveling with his wife.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marie “Val” (Pataky); daughter, Lori Cook (Paul) of Elyria; sister, Burdetta Lint (Ernie) of Carmichaels, PA; two step-grandchildren, Ryan Cook of Elyria, and Melissa Cook of Amherst; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rolla C. and Pearl R. (Curl) Holdren.
Friends may call at the Busch Funeral Home, 114 Second Street, Elyria, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. on Tuesday, October 9, 2007. Services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, October 10, 2007 at 11 A.M. with the Reverend Frances Ann Hills, Rector of St. Andrews Episcopal Church, Elyria, officiating. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be forwarded to New Life Hospice, 3700 Kolbe Road, Lorain, OH 44035. Funeral arrangements were handled by Busch Funeral Home, Elyria.
