Ollis "Sonny" Lon Wright, Sr., 71, of Lorain, died Saturday, September 22, 2007 at his residence, following a lengthy illness. Mr. Wright was born September 21, 1936 in Birmingham, AL and had lived in the Lorain County area since 1957.
He was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church of Lorain where he served as chairman of the deacon board, usher, and sang in the male chorus. He was also a member of the Deacon Council of Lorain.
He worked at U.S. Steel in the pipe mill, retiring in 1998 after 36 years of service and was a member of the United Steel Workers of America union. He was also working for the Lorain Public Schools as a school crossing guard on Kansas Avenue.
He enjoyed wrestling and watching western movies.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 13 years, Frieda C. Wright (nee Overall) of Lorain; father, Robert Wright of Birmingham, AL; daughter, Denise (Randy) Ray of Vermilion; sons, Tim Wright and Ollis L. Wright, Jr., both of Lorain; step-son, Ivan (Kristie) Overall of Elyria; sisters, Beatrice Heard and Robbie Peck, both of Birmingham, AL; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a host of other loving relatives and friends.
Mr. Wright was preceded in death by his mother, Julia Wright (nee Gaines).
Visitation will be held Thursday, September 27, 2007, from 7 to 9 P.M. and Friday, September 28, 2007, 12 Noon until the time of Service at 1 P.M at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 3900 Clifton Ave., Lorain. Rev. Peter Tower, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain. Arrangements are being handled by Brown-Robinson Funeral Home, Lorain.
