Emily Carrie “Pooge” Washington, 75, of Elyria, dearly beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and aunt departed this life August 13, 2007 after a lengthy illness. She was born in Florence, PA, moving to Elyria by way of Cleveland in the 1960’s, and was a graduate of Burgettstown High School in Burgettstown, PA.
She was employed at Elyria Memorial Hospital as a Ward Secretary for a number of years, and was a caregiver for many children in the community.
She attended Second Baptist Church of Elyria, she enjoyed crossword puzzles, and interior designing and enjoyed raising her grandchildren and spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband of over 50 years, Dallas Washington; daughters, Pamela J.N. Jones, Kimberly J. Washington (James), Dallra Washington, all of Elyria; Michelle R. McCall of New Orleans, LA, and Rhonda Washington of Las Vegas, NV; sons, Thomas M. Chapman (Nancy) of Canton, Dallas R. Washington Jr. of Elyria; 21 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; sister, Erma Smith of Canton; brothers, Edward Chapman of Columbus, Earl Chapman of Norfolk, VA, Erwin Chapman of Colorado Springs, CO.
She was preceded in death by parents, Edward and Estella Chapman; sister, Edith Chapman; brother, Everett Chapman.
Friends may call Thursday from 6 to 9 P.M. in the Carter Funeral Home Chapel, 127 W. Bridge St., Elyria. Services will follow on Friday at 11 A.M. at the House Of Praise International Church, 4321 Elyria Ave., Lorain, where Pastor Beverly Worthy, Assistant Pastor of the River of Life Ministries Church of Lorain will officiate.
