Rev. Harold D. Ray (Old Time Preacher Man), 64, of Elyria, passed away Monday, August 6, 2007 in the emergency room at EMH Regional Medical Center in Elyria following a sudden illness. He was born February 10, 1943 in Shawnee. He was a resident of Elyria for many years and he also lived in Chatham from 1988 to 2005.
He was a veteran and served in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1961.
He was employed as a fork lift operator at General Motors’ Fisher Guide Plant in Elyria for 23 years. He then attended the Ohio Police Academy and was employed as a security guard at both Medina and Lodi Community Hospitals for seven years.
Rev. Ray was also a licensed minister under the Assemblies of the Lord Jesus Christ. He served as pastor in West Salem at the First United Pentecostal Church from 1968 to 1978, then he served as pastor in Vermilion at Calvary Apostolic Church from 1981 to 1982, then he served as pastor in Chatham at the Apostolic Lighthouse from 1983 to 2005. He was currently attending Calvary Apostolic Church in Elyria, where he preached as recently as this past Sunday evening. He loved preaching the Word of God and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed his pet poodle, “Misty”.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Sharon (nee Kline); two daughters, Christina Norris (the late Donnie) and Dwanna O’Hare (Paul), both of Elyria; two sons, Michael (Karen) of West Salem and Samuel (Becky) of Creston; 11 grandchildren, Jason Ray, Angel, Michael and Henry Ray, Nathaniel, Jacob, Faith, Keri and Brian O’Hare, and Hannah and Denny Ray. His first great-grandson is due to arrive in September.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Martha (nee Lewis) Ray; by one brother, Allen Ladd Ray; by his grandmother, Etta Eubanks; and by one son-in-law, Donnie R. Norris.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. Thursday at the Liston Funeral Home, 36403 Center Ridge Rd., North Ridgeville.
The funeral service will be Friday at 12 Noon at Abundant Life Christian Center, 315 Morgan Ave., Elyria. Pastor Rod Pamer and Pastor Alan Westmoreland, will co-officiate.
Burial will be at Brookdale Cemetery in Elyria where members from VFW Post #1079 in Elyria, will conduct full military honors.
