Delbert W. Chapman, 74, of North Ridgeville, died Monday, June 18, 2007 at Specialty Hospital of Lorain. He was born in Braxton County, WV and had been a North Ridgeville resident for 50 years.
He was a veteran and served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954. Mr. Chapman was employed by North Ridgeville City Schools and retired in 1997 after 10 years of service.
He was a life member of VFW Post #9871 in North Ridgeville. He enjoyed gardening, playing horseshoes, music and playing the guitar.
He is survived by four daughters; Thelma Saville (Murrell) of Farmington Hills, MI, Lillian Smith (Michael) of Superior Township, MI, Lisa Johnson (Paul) of Farmington Hills, MI and Denise Toney (Sam) of Redford Township, MI; five grandchildren, Christa Rutherford, Rachael Neumann (Mark), Jeremy Johnson, Brittany Johnson and Donald Toney; one great-granddaughter, Autumn Neumann; two sisters, Millie Waycaster of Derby, and Leah Snyder of North Ridgeville; three brothers, Bee Chapman Jr., Robert Chapman and John Chapman all of North Ridgeville; and by many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bee Chapman Sr. and Lillian Chapman (nee Catron); and by one brother, Alfred Chapman.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 P.M. Thursday at the Liston Funeral Home, 36403 Center Ridge Road, North Ridgeville, where Funeral Services will be at 11 A.M. Friday. Pastor Lillian Smith, Mr. Chapman's daughter, will officiate. Burial will be at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Avon. Members from VFW Post #9871 will conduct full military honors at the cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
