Nathan Johnson, Jr., 68, formerly of Lorain, passed away on Wednesday, June 13, 2007 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania following a lengthy illness. He was born May 19, 1939 in Whitfield, Alabama. He was a young child when the family settled in Lorain, after leaving Alabama. He attended Lorain City Schools and graduated from Lorain High School. He was a star basketball player and high jumper. He attended Lorain County Community College and graduated with an Associate Degree in social work and then went on to Case Western Reserve in Cleveland, where he earned a Bachelors Degree in psychiatric social work, while working full-time at Ford Motor Company. He had a passion for helping others and sharing his philosophy of life. To know him was to love him. For many Christmas's he would take his grandchildren to the shelter and give gifts to the less fortunate. He loved life and enjoyed the finer things, food, photography, antiques, wine and sports.
He left to cherish his memory, daughter, Denise Pope of Pittsburgh, PA; son, Nathan Dino Johnson (Rosetta); five grandchildren, Danielle Greenhill, Dominique Johnson, Brittany Johnson Jerell Johnson, Delorean Boone; two great-grandchildren, Deja and Delon; four brothers, Chester Johnson (Nina) of Chantilly VA, Wayne Johnson of Elyria, Rev. Tommy West (Minnie) of Lorain, and Kendrick West
of Savanna GA; two sisters, Shirley Washington of Cleveland, and Carol Hill of Houston TX; and a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Nathan and Minnie Johnson, Sr.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, June 21, 2007 at 1 P.M. at Brown-Robinson Funeral Home, 2652 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Rev. Tommy West of Lorain will officiate. Arrangements by Brown-Robinson Funeral Home.
