Verban J. Varbanoff

Verban J. Varbanoff, 82, of Lorain, died Thursday May, 24th, 2007. He was employed as a crane man and later as a burner in the # 1 Machine Shop at United States Steel Corporation’s Lorain-Cuyahoga Works. He was a Purple Heart recipient who was extremely active in veteran’s affairs and activities throughout greater Lorain County.
He is survived by his wife of fifty nine years, Jennie (nee Dudukovich); sons, Kenneth A. Varbanoff of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, David J. Varbanoff of Sheffield Lake; daughter, Susan J. Noe of Sheffield Village; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and sister, Mary A. Toghill of Parma.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dan and Frances Varbanoff; brothers, Russell Elieff, Louis Elieff and Daniel Elieff.
Visitation will be Tuesday, May 29th from 4 to 8 P.M. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue,  Lorain. A parish rosary service will be conducted in the funeral chapel at 4 P.M. and a memorial service by the Disabled American Veterans at 7 P.M. Funeral services will be Wednesday beginning with closing prayers in the funeral chapel at 9:30 A.M. and will be followed by the celebration of his funeral mass at 10 A.M. in Saint Vitus Catholic Church,  1785 East 32nd, Lorain. The Reverend Simon Nekic, Pastor of Saint Vitus Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain,  where full military honors will be conducted by the officers and members of Louis Paul Proy Chapter # 20 of the Disabled American Veterans.
