UPDATED: Two injured in double stabbing

Correction: The female stabbing victim is Monica Freedman. The story originally gave an incorrect name.

AMHERST TWP. — A stabbing critically injured a woman and seriously injured a man at Amherst Trail, a mobile home park off state Route 113 near state Route 58 about 9:05 p.m. Tuesday.

The victims were hospitalized at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland in critical condition, according to a news release from Sgt. Todd Weegmann of the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office.

Steven Bullard was listed in fair condition early Wednesday, according to a nursing supervisor.

However, the supervisor said the second victim, Monica Freedman, was scheduled to be flown to Metro but the flight was canceled. Freedman’s condition could not be confirmed at press time.

Bullard’s next-door neighbors, Debbie Carr, and her daughter, Ashley Carr, said Bullard pounded on their door bleeding from the back, stomach and left arm. They said he was screaming for help and said he’d been stabbed.

Bullard said he was stabbed during a robbery attempt by Freedman and an unidentified man, both dressed in black. The Carrs said they’d seen Freedman at Bullard’s home before and Bullard said she was his girlfriend.

“He kept saying she was the one that stabbed him,” Ashley Carr said.

The Carrs said Bullard told them he was walking to the bathroom in his trailer when he saw a shadow before being attacked. Bullard said his wallet was stolen during the attack.

The Carrs said paramedics administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation on Freedman outside the trailer. Lorain County sheriff’s deputies and detectives taped off the area around Bullard’s trailer and his sport utility vehicle carrying the name of Bullard's business, Steven Painting, at 262 Greenwood St. in the trailer park.

A news release from Weegman didn’t list a motive for the stabbings.

Tia Hilton, a resident since 2009, said the trailer park is usually quiet and safe, but deputies had been called to Bullard’s home a few times in the last few years.

A couple months ago, Hilton said she saw Bullard scream at the trailer park manager.

“He’s not a super friendly guy,” she said.
