The thaw after last week’s subzero temperatures has the Black River in Elyria resembling an alien landscape.
Despite closings in past years, the bridge over the river on East Broad Street is expected to remain open, according to Tom Kelley, Lorain County Emergency Management Agency and Homeland Security director.
Kelley said Monday that ice jams on the Black River near the bridge don’t appear to be as substantial as they were four or five years ago, when the bridge was closed briefly due to ice.
Kelley said the decision ultimately would be up to Elyria officials. He also said flooding does not appear to be a significant danger elsewhere in the county, and no bridge closures are planned at this time.
