LORAIN — Former City Council members were honored Monday at the first Council meeting in which their replacements were seated.
Former Council members Bret Schuster, Myroslaw “Mickey” Silecky, Frank DeTillio and Anne Molnar were replaced by Councilman Greg Argenti, I-4th Ward; Councilman Joe Faga, D-7th Ward; Councilman Joshua Thornsberry, I-8th Ward; and Councilman Joe Koziura, D-at large, respectively.
DeTillio was appointed in January 2013 by the Lorain Democratic Party to replace Craig Snodgrass, who became Lorain County auditor. DeTillio, defeated by Thornsberry in November, was Lorain County Chamber of Commerce president from 1987 until his retirement in December. A resolution praised his “knowledge and leadership” in economic development.
Molnar served four terms from 1998 through 2005 before being defeated in 2005. She regained office in 2010 and was defeated in the May primary. A resolution praised the 86-year-old Molnar’s commitment to issues involving elderly people and her overall commitment to the community.
Molnar has been ill recently due to complications from a heart procedure. Councilman Dan Given, D-at large, said Molnar is recuperating at the Kingston Care Facility of Vermilion. “She still has a way to go, but her spirits are up,” said Given, who urged Molnar’s former constituents to contact her to wish her well.
Schuster, who took office in 2006 and didn’t run in November to spend more time at his family’s business, was saluted for promoting restoration of Lorain’s parks and roads. Silecky, who took office in 2006 and didn’t run in November because he is moving out of his ward, was praised for his work with the local Boy Scouts of America troop and with Lorain Pride Day efforts.
Councilman Tim Howard, D-3rd Ward, thanked DeTillio, Molnar, Schuster and Silecky for their service. “This is not an easy job and they were always here for this city,” he said.
