Purses, chairs banned from Cleveland New Year's Eve celebration


Cleveland is hosting the first Cleveland Rocks New Year’s Eve on Public Square tonight.

The event will kick off at 6 p.m. on Public Square in downtown Cleveland. It is free and will include food trucks, a beer garden, live ice sculpting, fireworks and live entertainment, including the midnight countdown by Drew Carey.

A security check will be conducted at entrances to Public Square. Several items will be prohibited from the site, including:

  • Bags of any size, including backpack, diaper bags, coolers and purses
  • Tents, umbrellas, chairs and blankets
  • Audio/video recording equipment
  • Alcoholic beverages
  • Outside food or weapons
  • Aerosol cans, mace or pepper spray

According to City Hall, the only items permitted inside Public Square are wallets, credit cards and currency; driver’s license/State ID; and cell phones.
