Local events are planned today to commemorate the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks.
Ohio Gov. John Kasich has ordered flags be flown at half-staff and asked that all Ohioans observe a moment of silence starting at 8:46 a.m.
At 9 a.m., law enforcement students will read a short essay at Lorain County Joint Vocational School. Students will then lay a wreath at the Sept. 11 memorial, and the flag will be raised and lowered appropriately.
A schoolwide moment of silence will be at 9:11 a.m.
The Lorain County Community College Student Senate and the LCCC Office of Student Life will hold an event that will focus on disaster preparedness 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the College Center Commons.
LCCC faculty, staff and students will come together to honor and remember the victims of 9/11.
Alice Webber from the Lorain County Emergency Management Agency will be the keynote speaker. Webber will discuss local emergency planning and how to develop and maintain an emergency communication plan.
Other activities will include a recruitment of volunteers to serve nonprofits in Lorain County and the planting of a “Remembrance Tree” provided by the AmeriCorps Vista program.
Light refreshments will be served.
