Columbus police arrest suspect in killing of former Lorain man

COLUMBUS — A suspect was arrested in connection with the murder of former Lorain resident Brian Vura.

Vura, who moved to Columbus where he attended The Ohio State University, was shot to death outside of his Columbus home on July 3. He was 29.

Sgt. Rich Weiner, spokesman for the Columbus Police Department, said Douglas Poe, 21, was arrested and charged with murder in connection with the death. Poe was arrested Monday at his Columbus home on Loretta Avenue, and he was taken to Franklin County Jail.

Weiner would not comment on Poe’s motive in the alleged shooting as Vura’s death is under investigation.

The Columbus Dispatch reported that Vura was returning from watching a Cleveland Indians game at a bar when he was shot through the windshield of his vehicle. In an earlier interview, Weiner said officers were called to Vura’s home on Medary Avenue at 12:41 a.m. July 3, where he was pronounced dead.

Vura graduated from Admiral King High School in 2001, and he moved to Columbus 10 years ago. He managed the Hang Over Easy diner on Ohio State’s campus for the past five years, according to his obituary.
