ELYRIA — A trailer fire overnight sent a family of five to the hospital.
Elyria firefighters were called to 122 Pennsylvania Ave., in the Colonial Oaks mobile home park, at 3:34 a.m., according to Assistant Chief Tim Mitchell.
They found the trailer totally engulfed in flames.
All five family members got out of the home but were covered in soot and were sent to the hospital to be checked out for smoke inhalation, Mitchell said.
Mitchell said the fire, which is not considered suspicious, appears to have started in the living room near a television. He said the living room had heavy fire damage and the rest of the home had heavy smoke and water damage.
He said damage is estimated at $20,000 to the trailer and $20,000 to its contents. He said the trailer is uninhabitable but said he was unsure if the family has a place to stay.
He didn't know names of the family members or whether they had been released from the hospital.
