ELYRIA — A visiting judge has been appointed to replace Lorain County Common Pleas Judge James Burge and hear arguments about whether convicted killer Stanley Jalowiec is entitled to a new trial.
Ohio Supreme Court Justice Maureen O’Connor removed Burge from the case last week at the request of Assistant County Prosecutor Tony Cillo, who had argued that Burge was biased against him and had already made up his mind to grant Jalowiec a new trial. She rejected a request from Cillo that the judge be barred from handling any case Cillo is involved in.
O’Connor named retiring Stark County Common Pleas Judge Virgil Sinclair Jr. to resolve the Jalowiec case.
Sinclair also is handling the Head Start child molestation case that Burge removed himself from earlier this year.
