Man who crashed arrested on warrant

ELYRIA — A man who crashed his vehicle after making a U-turn on Broad Street on Friday morning wound up charged from the accident and arrested on an outstanding warrant.

Warren Daniels Sr., 66, of Elyria, was eastbound on East Broad Street in a silver Mercedes SUV shortly after 8 a.m. Friday when he turned into the intersection of East Broad and state Route 57 and made a U-turn in heavy traffic, police said.

Daniels then went westbound on East Broad where he struck a Hyundai Elantra stopped in the eastbound lanes.

After the collision, Daniels drove eastbound again into the intersection before turning north into oncoming traffic in the southbound lanes of Route 57, reports said.

At this point, police said Daniels swerved left and went into a ditch, where he continued driving before hitting a chain-link fence in the parking lot of an auto parts store where the Mercedes stopped.

Police said Daniels appeared confused and denied being in an accident.

He refused treatment by LifeCare personnel.

When the man’s wife arrived, she told police Daniels had a history of seizures but was taking medication for them and hadn’t experienced one in some time.

A check of motor vehicle records revealed Daniels had a contempt of court warrant through the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office and was under suspension through Bedford Municipal Court until 2017.

Police cited Daniels for reckless operation and driving under suspension and arrested him on the warrant.
