LORAIN — A jilted ex-girlfriend was arrested Monday after police said she set fire to her former boyfriend’s things.
The fire was reported outside of William Davila’s home on Fulmer Drive. Police arrived at the home at 11:53 a.m. Monday after Davila told police he returned home to find a plastic table with his clothes and other items on fire in front of his apartment door.
Police said Davila’s apartment door was on the second floor of the complex. Davila had received text messages from his ex-girlfriend, Angelina Baker, 22, about their failed relationship earlier in the day.
The text messages started by Baker telling Davila that she was depressed and that they couldn’t be more than friends, and they later turned angry, according to a police report.
Police said Baker texted Davila, “Let the cops get involved I swear to god I will personally make sure you’re a— sits in jail for a loooooong time!!” and “Hope this makes you happy I can’t live without you so I’m not going to (sic).”
Police said Davila then received a message from Baker with a picture of his items on fire outside his apartment. He ran home to find everything still burning, and to stop the fire from spreading, he picked up the table and threw it down the wooden stairs onto a concrete pad on the first level walkway of the building.
Police said Davila had second and third degree burns on his hands, and he was taken to Mercy Regional Medical Center for treatment. The Lorain Fire Department arrived at the scene, but the fire was out.
Police arrested Baker at her home on West 38th Street. She was charged with aggravated arson and taken to Lorain City Jail.
