Vigil for Elyrian killed in crash scheduled for today

ELYRIA — Friends of Willie Fekete are holding on to his memory the best they can since his death on March 23.

Fekete, 22, of Elyria, was one of five people in an automobile accident at Bradley Woods Reservations of the Cleveland Metroparks in Westlake. Fekete was the only passenger who died from injuries sustained in the crash.

A vigil in Fekete’s memory will be 5 to 7 p.m. today at Vic Janowicz Memorial Park, 100 Wittenberg Road, Elyria.

Family friend Mark Runser said Fekete had many friends who were unable to pay their final respects because there was no funeral service.

“He was an only child, and he had no (immediate) family here,” Runser said.

Runser said Fekete’s organs were donated and his body was cremated.

“There was no service to say goodbye, and we felt the need to say goodbye,” Runser said.

Fekete was a 2009 graduate of Midview High School.

Runser said Fekete attended school with both of his children, thus forming a strong bond.

“He was at my house every day,” Runser said. “He just hung out here.”

Tyler Emery was one of Fekete’s best friends since the age of 6.

“He was very outspoken, and he wore his heart on his sleeve,” Emery said.

Emery said Fekete lived life to its fullest and was a good guy.

“He had friends all over Lorain County,” Emery said. “This is our way to say goodbye because he had a lot of people who loved him.”
