Police considering charges in stabbing death of dog

AMHERST — Police are meeting with the prosecutor today to determine if charges should be filed against a man who stabbed a dog to death Sunday.

Amherst police Lt. Dan Jasinski said the suspect was walking his dog on Red Tail Lane Sunday when another dog approached him. The man told police that the dog attacked his dog, so he stabbed it with a pocket knife in self-defense.

The dog that was stabbed died of its injuries, and police are now investigating.

Jasinski said the deceased dog was in the owner’s front yard when the incident occurred.

More information should be available this afternoon, Jasinski said.
