The Lorain County Sheriff's Office will step up patrols this weekend in what it is calling the Super Bowl Weekend DUI/Seat Belt Enforcement Blitz.
According to a news release from Sheriff Phil Stammitti, additional deputies will be on the road in an effort to reduce alcohol- and speed-related accidents in select areas of the county.
Deputies will also be enforcing seat belt laws.
Areas that will be targeted are state Route 82, the area of state Routes 57 and 254 and state Route 20. These areas were selected because of high incidences of accidents and alcohol-related violations.
Funds for the stepped up presence came from the federal government in conjunction with the state of Ohio, according to the news release.
The Sheriff's Office received $46,627.18 to for law enforcement blitzes during holidays the past two years.
Elyria police and the State Highway Patrol have also said they plan a stepped-up presence for Super Bowl weekend.
