The driver involved in a crash with a train around 4:05 p.m. Sunday in Amherst Township was in fair condition Monday at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland.
Miriam Matesic, 78, of the 1700 block of Urban Circle North in Lorain, was hit by a Norfolk Southern train at a railroad crossing by the Township Hall at 7530 Oberlin Road. The Ford Edge that Matesic was driving received substantial damage, but the train conductor and engineer were uninjured.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Ohio Highway Patrol’s Elyria post. A Norfolk Southern spokesman said the gates and lights at the crossing were working when the crash occurred.
