Two men arrested after one of them is shot

ELYRIA — Two men have been arrested after one of them was shot early Saturday in Elyria.

Jonathan Lankey, 21, of Lorain was shot as he was attempting to leave a party on Garden Street, according to Elyria police Capt. Chris Costantino.

The accused shooter, Aaron Jackson, 21, of Elyria, was arrested this morning, he said.

Police were first called to Garden Street shortly after 3 a.m. Saturday after receiving a report that a woman had been hit by a car.

Officers determined that Lankey and his sister, Julie Lankey, 25, of Elyria, got into an altercation while at a party in the 1000 block of Garden Street and decided to leave, Costantino said.

Julie Lankey realized she had left her purse in the home, Costantino said, and returned to retrieve it. At that time, she realized $30 was missing from her purse.

At that point, Jonathan returned to the home and began challenging people to fight.

When the Lankeys ultimately left, a black male in a red hoody — determined to be Jackson — pulled a gun on them through their car window.

Jonathan attempted to drive away and ended up hitting Raya Davidson, 20, of Elyria, who police found lying on the ground.

Jackson continued to fire at the vehicle, according to Costantino, and Jonathan Lankey was shot in the buttocks.

Lankey, who was southbound on Garden Street, ended up crashing into a parked vehicle on Allen Street, Costantino said.

According to Costantino, both Jonathan Lankey and Davidson were taken to EMH Elyria Medical Center, and neither of their injuries were believed to be life-threatening. The hospital didn't have any information on either patient, according to a spokeswoman.

Lankey was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, driving under suspension and failure to maintain reasonable control.

Jackson was charged with felonious assault and a warrant for contempt of court.
