ELYRIA — Police charged an Elyria teen with assault Saturday afternoon after a 43-year-old man said he was punched by the teen when the man stopped momentarily to count change in his pocket, according to a police report.
Arron Jones, 19, was charged with assault after police found him leaving a house in the 300 block of East River Street a short time after the supposed attack on the older man, police said.
The older man told police he was walking along East River Street and stopped by a trash can near a home to count some change. A juvenile then began yelling and cursing at the man to get off the property, he said.
When the man told the teen to leave him alone, a man later identified as Jones stepped outside and began arguing with the alleged victim.
Jones then came off the porch and slammed the older man into the snow, where he punched him in the cheek.
Officers found a man matching the description from the older man a few minutes later at the address where the attack occurred.
Jones first denied punching the man but later admitted doing so, claiming he struck the man because he was on Jones’ property.
