ELYRIA — Charles “Scooby” Brassfield was sentenced to seven years in prison today on charges he was responsible for the death of 8-month-old Desiree Wade.
A jury found Brassfield guilty of involuntary manslaughter and child endangering earlier this year, but deadlocked on additional charges of murder, felonious assault and child endangering.
Brassfield has maintained that he had nothing to do with Desiree’s death and during the trial his former lawyer pointed the finger at Desiree’s mother, Ciara Wade.
Brassfield was babysitting Desiree when she suffered the head injuries that led to her death in 2010.
Mike Stepanik, Brassfield’s newly hired attorney, said that Brassfield intends to appeal his conviction.
