Ohio officials to outline school safety efforts

COLUMBUS — Ohio's attorney general and the state's top public schools official are outlining the progress of school safety initiatives since three students were killed in a shooting in northeast Ohio in February.

The comments planned for this morning by Attorney General Mike DeWine and Acting Superintendent of Public Instruction Michael Sawyers come less than a week after a gunman killed 26 people at a Connecticut elementary school, including 20 children.

DeWine plans to discuss what has been done since the Feb. 27 shootings in Chardon, as well as recommendations for future action.

Chardon shooting suspect T.J. Lane, who filed an insanity plea, goes on trial next month.

Investigators say the teenager admitted shooting at students but couldn't say why.
