Moss' doesn't sell at auction; developer buys land near Turnpike

Moss' restaurant did not sell at auction today in Middleburg Heights but another Elyria parcel did.

The business, on Broad Street in Elyria, was put up for auction by owner Sandi Laubenthal with a reserve price of $134,500.

Laubenthal has said previously she is not closing up shop in the event the business does not sell at auction.

“I have no intention of closing,” Laubenthal had said. “I just want to transfer ownership.”

Laubenthal hired the Chartwell Group of Cleveland to oversee the liquidation of both the business and Broad Street property.

Ash Patel of Fremont purchased 11.4 acres that sits behind Dick's Sporting Goods and Giant Eagle near the Turnpike for $290,000. Its reserve price was $100,000.

Patel said he has no immediate plans for the land but that he is in the lodging business.

"Sooner or later we'll see something there," he said.

Also not selling today was the former T.G.I.Friday's restaurant at 2040 Midway Mall Blvd. Its reserve price was $170,000.

Both Moss' and T.G.I.Friday's will now move to private sale status.
