LORAIN — A Lorain man was arrested after his sister told police he shot at her while her young children were in the home.
At 5:09 p.m. Thursday, police were sent to the 1200 block of Wes Sixth Street for a shooting. Police met with Courtney Smarr, 27, who told police her brother, Dustin Young, 22, shot at her and then fled out the back door.
Smarr told police Young had come over at 5 p.m. and was in the basement when she heard him yelling at her children to stop following him. Smarr said she told Young that “the kids live there and could go anywhere they wanted,” according to a police report.
Smarr said Young started to poke her in the face with his index finger, when she said she was calling police. She said Young then threw a pot of cooking spaghetti on the floor of the kitchen and smashed her phone.
According to the report, Young then pulled out a pistol, firing a bullet through a glass pane in the front door.
Smarr was reportedly in the room, and Smarr’s 4-year-old and 5-year-old child were on the couch, approximately five feet from the door.
After a brief struggle with Young, Smarr said Young then fled through the back door.
Police said a bullet hole was found in the front door and the living room wall. Police said a single casing was found in the living room, but it had already been handled by Smarr’s children.
Police located Young later that evening, at 8:55 p.m., according to the report.
Police said Young was walking on Oberlin Avenue with another man. An officer arrested Young, but the man he was with fled the scene.
Young was charged with felonious assault, reckless discharge of a firearm and domestic violence. He was arraigned Friday in Lorain Municipal Court and held in Lorain City Jail without bond.
Police later located the man who fled, Donovan Corbin, 19, hiding under a window on the roof of a home. Police said Corbin had a warrant through Lorain County Sheriff’s Office for robbery, violation of a temporary protection order and domestic violence.
