WESTLAKE — A Westlake man was arrested today after he reportedly set his own garage on fire.
Daniel Jung, 30, is charged with aggravated arson after police say he set the garage on fire at his home at 25714 Woodpath Trail.
Listen to the 911 call:
According to police, Jung poured an accelerant around a cluster of propane tanks and aerosol cans and lit it at 10:27 a.m. A witness observed him acting suspiciously and called 911. The garage was moderately damaged. No one was home, and no one was injured, according to police.
In 2004, Jung was driving a car that struck and killed his father, Yong Jung, and injured his mother, Jemma Jung, according to police.
He spent time in mental institutions before he was eventually convicted of involuntary manslaughter and felonious assault. He was sentenced to eight years but was not locked up for very long due to time he'd already served, according to police.
In today's incident, Westlake, Rocky River, North Olmsted, and Fairview Park fire departments responded to put out the fire.
Jung was taken to St. John Medical Center after making suicide threats. He was released and has been returned to the Westlake City Jail.
