Oberlin man arrested in Elyria on drug charges

ELYRIA — A 23-year-old Oberlin man faces felony counts including trafficking in drugs/preparation for sale after police stopped a luxury car with tinted windows Friday night.

Dashawn Martin also was charged with possession of crack cocaine, possession of criminal tools and resisting arrest in connection with the traffic stop on Bell Avenue shortly before 7 p.m.

Martin was being held Saturday without bond in the Lorain County Jail pending a court appearance on Monday.

Authorities seized 17.8 grams of crack, 5 grams of marijuana in five bags, $2,085 and four pairs of Nike Air Jordan shoes, according to a police report.

Police ran the license plate of the tan Infiniti after noticing it had tinted windows that shielded the identity of the people inside and a tinted license plate cover that obscured a portion of the temporary plate.

Officers stopped the car after discovering there was a warrant for the owner of the car.Another woman was driving, and Martin was in the front passenger seat.

An officer searched Martin and found a plastic bag containing the crack after noticing a bulge he thought was a gun, according to the report.

Martin had $2,000 in his shoe and $85 in his pocket, according to the report by officers Gerald Lantz and James Welsh.

During his arrest, Martin struggled with officers and was taken to the ground and held until backup arrived, according to the report.
