Man with five prior DUI convictions charged again

LORAIN – Police said a Lorain man with five drunken driving convictions was more than four times over the legal limit when he hit another vehicle Monday morning.

The accident occurred at 10:12 a.m. at 1040 Tower Blvd. when a car, driven by Steve Majcher, 53, struck another vehicle while he was changing lanes. A police report did not list whether the other driver, Marisol Arzuaga, 21, was injured during the crash.

Majcher told police the defroster in his vehicle was not working, and he did not see Arzuago when he was changing lanes to turn into the apartment complex at 1031 Tower Blvd. When asked if he had consumed any alcohol, Majcher said, “Not enough” to a police officer.

Majcher was arrested after a portable breath test showed he had consumed enough alcohol to be over the legal limit. A bag filled with empty beer cans was on the passenger’s side floor of his vehicle, according to a police report.

Police said Majcher submitted a breath test at the police station. That test showed a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.325 percent, according to the report. Ohio law deems a driver impaired at 0.08 percent.

Majcher was cited for operating a vehicle intoxicated, driving under an operating a vehicle impaired suspension, changing lanes without caution and unsafe motor vehicle. Police said he had five prior operating vehicles impaired convictions – in 1985, 1986, 1990, 1993 and 2006.
